Gender representation in advertising

1) Find three adverts featuring women from the 1950s or 1960s. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and import them into your blog post. Hint: You may wish to look at car, perfume or cleaning products but can use any product you wish.

2) Find three adverts featuring women that are from post-2000. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and import them into your blog post.

3) What stereotypes of women can you find in the 1950s and 1960s adverts? Give specific examples.

One stereotype we can spot in adverts between the 50s - and 60s is about women being married and living as housewives this is shown in the two adverts I used for question one (OMO and Budweiser). Another stereotype is about women having to be petite and delicate (feminine features). This stereotype is featured in the third advert I used and another example is this Coca-Cola advert:
4) What stereotypes of women can you find in the post-2000s adverts? Give specific examples.

One stereotype that can be seen in post-2000s adverts is much more representation of race and gender. This is seen in the Lego advert I used for question 2. Even though the representation has gotten better, we still see stereotyping of women having to be slim and petite to be attractive. This makes us question, has our society really developed as much as we think it has?

5) How do your chosen adverts suggest representations of gender have changed over the last 60 years?
The adverts I have used for the 50s - 60s conventionally have white, pale women with white features. However, adverts made post-2000s include people (in my example of the Lego advert, children) of other races who have different ethnic features. Even though this is true, we still see women being shown as slim and the need to be skinny and "fit".
