1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience?
Media companies have a certain audience in mind when producing media texts. They use audience research and analysis to learn about their target audience and how to make the media text appeal to them. They do this by making a demographic profile of their audience. They use information like age, gender, income, education and occupation. They may also use classes. For example, the upper middle class includes doctors, lawyers and bankers.
2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics?
Media companies have started to use audience profiling rather than just demographics as it is more accurate. This is because it helps them gain an insight into what the audience prefers so they get a bigger and better insight of the target audience than just with demographics. As a result, the media text will seem more apealing to the audience as it allows the audience to feel that it has been aimed at them as it will be seen as relatable or accurate to them.
3) What psychographic group or groups do YOU belong in? Think about your own interests and lifestyle and explain your decision. Remember, you may fit into two or three different groups!
I think I fit into the category "The Aspirer" because I like to shop a lot. I also prefer having a collection of things so that's why I am more interested in products or items with a wider range and collection. I also believe this as I like to pay attention to my personal image and presentation. I also like the invest in good products to keep my personal image. For example skin care.
